Oslo West - Exclusive Design and Neighbourhood Cafés

Oslo’s west side has traditionally been the area for high salaries and prices, and which gives the area a special atmosphere. The streets are lined with exclusive shops, bars and restaurants, and stately apartment buildings, but the area also offers cozy neighbourhood cafés, small shops and big parks for lazy summer days.

Gammel bygård på Frogner

The terms east side and west side of Oslo were traditionally used about the economical and social divide between the neighbourhoods on the eastern and the western side of Oslo. The prices on housing and the general level of income on the western side have traditionally been higher on the western part of Oslo.

Behind the Royal Palace, towards the Vigeland Sculpture Park, lies the area Majorstua with the streets Bogstadveien and Hegdehaugsveien. This has been an established area for nightlife and shopping for many years. Here you will find exclusive stores with famous brands like Hugo Boss, DKNY and Massimo Dutti, but also stores like Zara and H&M. There are also many trendy clubs and bars, especially in Hegdehaugsveien.

Further west you find the areas Frogner, Briskeby and Bygdøy Allé. The many luxurious apartment buildings characterize the area, and in Bygdøy Allé you’ll find exclusive and modern stores offering the best in interior design and furniture in addition to several types of specialized stores. In this part of town you also find a large amount of art galleries and antique stores, and you never have to look far for a place to eat or drink, whether you are looking for a nice gourmet restaurant or a cosy neighbourhood café.

East of Bogstadveien, Bislett and St. Hanshaugen you will find nice areas with a combination of small shops, coffee shops and a pulsating nightlife. Many students hang out in these areas, as the College of Oslo is located here. St. Hanshaugen itself offers a great view over the city and is a popular park for lazy days in summer.
