Gay Oslo

Europride 2005

Oslo is a gay-friendly city and the large gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community ensures that Oslo has it all - from sophisticated art exhibitions to fabulous parties all year round. Although compact, Oslo can offer something for everyone; gourmet food, outdoor adventures, unique shopping and cultural experiences. The best place to start is in the city centre itself, where the majority of the gay and lesbian community is found. See our tips below for places to go and websites to check out.

The Norwegian society is, generally speaking, liberal towards the gay community. We have many gay public figures, in TV and entertainment as well as in politics and business. In fact, the former Minister of Finance and the current chairman of Oslo's city council are openly gay. Special gay hotels or restaurants are not needed – gay couples are welcome to stay and share a bed at any hotel, or enjoy a romantic dinner at any of the city's restaurants. In Oslo you will find that most cafés, bars and restaurants are very gay friendly. You will of course find special clubs and parties for gay  and lesbian people, but mostly you will find  truly mixed crowds; gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and straight party people all over town.

Come and enjoy our city!
